Hey, remember when I said I would update at Saturdays?
    I'm keeping my word. BUT.

Since today is my birthday, yesterday's would-be update is going to be now. Because time is an illusion.

    Now where were we?

    >Move already!

Yeah, this seems like a nice grinding spot.
My having to take Weed to the Poké Center every two or three battles notwithstanding.

    That sounded wrong.

    Wait a second...

Aha! That's what I thought was wrong with that sentence!

When weed evolves, it becomes bees!
Nasty bees! Not at all like Zuptin.

Yup, pretty good. I'm sure we can get to the entrance to Victory Roa-

    Son of a octopus farmer.

What, because this girl with a dumb name and a Metapod who can't even turn into a Butterfree is too incompetent to train her team and get strong enough to defeat gym leaders and the E4 and become champion because what else am I supposed to do on a Nuzlocke challenge and I'll certainly get my ass handed to me?
    IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE SAYING?!

    Ah, well, I...
    ...
You're not hitting on me, are you?

    Can't say he isn't.

May or may not use it later. You never know.

    FFS, dude, lern 2 pokeyman!

Oh yeah, change the subject while you still can.

No wait, I won. I get to choose what we talk about.

Hey, where do you think you're going? You must at least take my complacency card.

... That's what "complacency" means, right?

    Oh, you're gone.

Well, now I'm off to grind for rock bro. I'm thinking of a few ways of how to deal with him.
    You guys got any ideas?

    >GRINDAN

    Sorry not sorry.

    And

    Weed

    Grows.

Are you sure "fun" is the word you wanted to use there, champ?
    You're kind of a creep.

Yeah, just watch me. Rules say first Pokémon of the area. Nothing about non-wild mons.

... I'm just kidding. Won't steal and won't cheat, promise.

My my, would you look at that.
And it took me a bit over 70 encounters no less.

They do nothing. They're useless. Useless I say!

    ...
    Literally two encounters latter.

MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA

Ah, that will be enough. Rock bro, here we go!

Here we are. Pewter city. So much to do, so much to see.

    image

So what's wro- Oh. Well, no, but aren't there better places to visit around here?

I really don't think this is the best use of my time.
Oh well. As long as I'm here.

And of course you gotta pay.
Wait. What do you mean "child"? What do I look, 10?

Does that look like the body of a ten-year-old?

    Oh, I just noticed.
If you don't count the title screen, this is the 69th screenshot.

    ... Moving on.

    ]

It's more of a wyvern, actually.

wow. much information. such fly. many space.

Hey, you guys sure have a lot of those here. You won't mind terribly if I took one home, will you?
    ... Will you?

Ah, this place is a waste of my time.

This got me thinking, when did I last eat?

You're letting me customize my own card? OMG BEST GAME 2040

    Best of the best!
I mean it. Beedrill is a total beast!
So much so, I think I'm going to use Weed and Weed alone against Brock.

Yup. Solid strategy there. Time to gym!

    Just gimme my fresh water.
Oh, you're not that guy. Never mind.

He's... Literally right there. What are you implying, that this place distorts space-time like wet cloth?

Or could it be that you're just stupid?

    WHAT

Oh that's it! I'm fucking done! Rock bro can wait until after I cool down!

    Okay, I'm ready.

    Weed's stats and moves.

    image

All I need for this battle.

    image

    Why.

    image

    It is on!

    image

    image

Now you might be wondering why I'm not using Charmant. He has Metal Claw, which is SE against rock types.

Let's just say I have my reasons not to.

    image

    Solid reasons.

    image

And of course Brock's response is to prepare for stalling.
Too bad Weed has the upper hand.
    Um... Drill.

    image

As Weed gets to +6 Def, Geodude decides it's time to get aggressive.

As you can see, its threat level is about as high as a Sunkern's.

    ]image

Moreso when its HP is steadily going down.

    image

Man do I love stalling battles.

    image

Onix, though, is a bigger threat. Much bigger.
Tackle and Bind won't do much, even if the latter might be annoying.
Rock Tomb is what worries me.

    image

It has 80 accuracy and 50 Base Power.
Because Onix is a Rock type, it gets STAB, so the actual BP is 75.
Add in super effectiveness and it's a whooping 150 BP move on this first gym.

    image

    I'm screwed, ain't I?

    Hah, as if.

    image

First of all, a steady source of damage.

Then take the 150 Base Power move and halve it.
    Now halve it again.

That's how much a +6 defense protects you.

    image

Of course, crits bypass positive defenses.
    Good thing that was Tackle.

    image

This is how much a normal Tackle does.
Being 35 BP in this gen, it's less than 9 against Weed right now.

Rock Tomb would be 37.5 BP. Nothing to laugh at, but it can't even 4HKO Weed.

    image

Key word being "would". This AI is ridiculous.

    image

    image

What did you expect? That's what happens when you're...

    image

    image

And to the victor go the spoils.

    image

    Remember those words, DashNet.
    We're going to become champions.

    image

    Just you wait, Jelly.

Why do I have a feeling you didn't use Charmant's Metal Claw because of a rule put in place by the run? Something along the lines of "if your Pokemon uses a move outside of it's type that is super effective against the opponent Pokemon, something bad happens"?

Heh, not too bad for a first. Just a quick stop at the PC to-

    ACTIVATE RULE

    Oh for fuck's sake...

Hype Train: If you defeat a Gym Leader without casualties, you may not heal until you hit a new town. Only applies when there are still Gym Leaders left.

Welp. Guess now we're done for, huh?
Here, lemme put things into perspective.

    image

    That's where we are.

    image

    That's our destination.

A trip to die for, huh?

And I do mean each and every kind of active healing. No Poké Center, no potions, no berries, no moves (like Milk Drink or Leech Seed), and no abilities (like Rain Dish).

    image

But no point whining about it. We'll get there or die trying.

And I do mean that literally.

    image

    Oh, it's... You.

    image

Hey, now we can get to our doom faster!
Guess he really came to my AID.

    ... Guys?

Hey, what do we have here?

    image

    Aww... Mom believes in me.

Alright, now I'm motivated! Time to get this show on the road!

    image

They say three means death here in Kanto.

    image

I disagree. For now at least.

Yeah, I'm obviously avoiding all the battles I can. It may not look like it, but I want to beat this game.

    image

    Yeah!

    image

    Hell yeah!

    image

    Hell motherfucking yeah!

Okay, time to check our Route 3 catch.

It's not like I can use her anyway. Might as well merge both names.

So close to a self destruct.
No, that's a Smash Bros term. Here we call it...

    We call it...

Ah, you know what I'm talking about. Recoil damage from Struggle and all that.

    image

What's up with this country's signs?

    image

Somehow managed to get through Route 3 in one piece.

And some good news for once, there is only one Pokémon to get in Route 4.

    image

    Truly outrageous.

Wait no. Gyarados can't learn Outrage in gen III.

Too bad we can't ride magical sea serpent.

You know what? This was a bad idea. Give my money back!

    image

    Crap. He's right.

Maybe I can use it for my advantage, though.
You guys ever heard of Dupes Clause?

    image

It says the player can ignore the first Pokémon they find if they already have a Pokémon of that species.

    image

    (damn dat defishious defense)

So basically if my catch for any given area is a Magikarp, I can pretend it didn't happen and go to the next.

    image

(Who reads newspapers on clipboards? And upside down no less.)

    Extensions to the rule include:

    image

(We may or may not fail to get a Pokémon at Mt. Moon too...)

Ignoring the whole evolutionary family, skipping as long as there are dupes,

    image

    (Lord Helix pls)

losing the catch altogether, not only catching it but swapping it with the original,

    image

    among others.

    Hey, not a Zubat!

I mean, Paras or Clefairy would be better, but I'll take what I can get.

    image

That's 4 Tackles from Penis, one being critical.

    Geodude used only one.

    Yeah...

    image

I've lost count of turns. Blame fast-mode.

Screw it, I'm risking a Pokéball here.

As thoughtful as can be, I guess.

    image

Nice. Now to get something that can actually use it.

    image

    Moving on.

    image

Hey there boy. Do look over here, I have rocks.

    image

I have the faintest feeling that reserve psychology does work.

Sorry if this trip is too uneventful. I'll backtrack once we get to Cerulean.

    image

Here's to the only rock I don't get to use.

    image

That black spot is Fish. He's just paralyzed, don't worry.

Hey, don't look at me like that! It was either this or risking Penis's life.

    image

    °-°

    image

    O_O

    ... How much again?!

    image

No! I didn't mean that literally!

    image

Whew. I was kinda expecting Weed to tank hits better.
Gotta remember bees don't always come with +6 defense.

    image

    Ember has such underwhelming visuals.

Then again, it might just be that early Pokémon have very low Special Defense.

    image

And the fact that the Charmander line is offensively oriented.

    image

That man is gonna be the death of me, I just know it.

    image

    Oh boy here we go.

    image

It's risky, but I'll try Fury Attack again.

    image

    Just my luck.

Good thing he followed up with Harden.

    Or is it?

    image

    Ah, there we have it.

    image

Quick reminder Elvis had 9 HP.

    image

    And full cycle.
Which means at least 3 more Tackles to finish Grimer off.

Yeah, that'll take a while. Weed can sneak in another move.

    image

    ashdgasjgdjagf

    This fucker can read minds!

Grimer tried Poison Gas twice. Missed both.

    His response?

    image

After soloing Brock, I'm honestly surprised she lasted so long.

    ...

    image

    image

    image

Another reminder Poison Gas accuracy was 55% until gen V.

    image

    A good thing too.

    image

    I've been thinking.

Maybe I should put new updates inside spoilers.

I'll start on the next page.

    So, which will it be?

Heads, we take Helix. Tails, we leave Dome.

    This could get interesting.

    image

    Sure you did.

    image

    Sure you did.

    image

It would if it weren't full of misleading data.
But now that I think about it, it's a very cool way to put it.

Okay, so because we already have a catch for route 4 (which I hope was a good move), and we can't go back to Mt. Moon yet, there are no more than three things we can do.

    Grind on what we manage to find on route 4;

    Fight Jelly, which is slightly out of our league;

Challenge Misty, which will most likely serve our asses on a crystal plate.

... Yeah, I'll be back once Charmant and Elvis get strong enough to carry the team on their backs.

    image

And might not take as long as I had estimated.

It's gonna be funny, you know.

    image

My team right now is basically a Charmeleon and a Geodude.

    image

There's a Squirtle and a Water gym waiting for me.

    image

Maybe I should've gotten Mega Punch for Charmant.

    image

Then again, Scratch's perfect accuracy is too good to give up now.

    image

    image

    This will do.

    Get ready, Jelly. We're a-coming.

    image

Said the Pokémon Master, I presume?

    image

    Touchy subject, huh?

    image

    This is gonna be easy.

    image

    It's alright. We've got time.

    image

    A lot of time, apparently.

    image

    Huh. Rock Throw wasn't enough.
I know the Pidgey line is bulky, but this was a surprise.

    image

    No sweat.

    image

    Too soon...

    image

Risky? I know, but what else could I use? Magikarp?

    image

Ember is weaker than I thought...
    This may be troublesome.

    image

I can't tell whether this is good or terrible.

    image

    Hah! 'Tis great! 'Tis perfect!

    image

    'Tis my big mouth!

    image

And Scratch, ironically enough, does scratch damage.

    image

Perhaps I should trust Ember more. Even if Charmant has a Jolly nature.

Either way, sweet relief that's over.

    image

    Oh. Right.

Well, now it should be a breeze.

    image

    Couldn't get away!

    image

I'm actually glad it was a weak one.

    image

    image

Oh no. Leaving so soon? That wasn't even my strongest Magnitude.

    image

    image

We need more variety, and we need it FAST.

    image

But what we don't need, Jelly, is your pity. Scram!

    image

I swear, one can't be allowed in a child's game and get more tsundere than this.

This is it for now. That was a very close call, but now that we can get some real mons maybe we'll see less red bars on our end.

Oh my, sorry. Why didn't you say sooner, of course I'd join.
Guess it's too late now, huh? That's a shame.

    image

Yup. A very big shame indeed.

So, to get our new poké we are going to use Penis.
BUT. Penis is slightly weaker than the wild mons here, so we gotta train him a bit first.

And during the grind, this happened.

Feel free to laugh to your heart's content.

    Done? I hope you are.

Because this is no laughing matter no more.

Anybody who guesses correctly wins nothing.

Reckless Strength: If a Pokémon can learn a recoil or sacrificial move, it must be taught over its strongest Base Power move.

    And here's our problem:

    image

Magnitude has random BP. The average is 71, but it can be as weak as 10.
    And as strong as 150.

Both Rock Throw and Rock Tomb have 50 BP. Tackle has 35.

One has to go, and it has to be either Rock Tomb or Magnitude.

    Which will it be?
