Unlocking Items

Hi, I can't seem to figure out how to work items. For example, in this snippet below I'm trying to have the item dustyMap become available to purchase once the player has a search party building.

Items
*dustyMap
name:A Dusty Map
desc:A search party brought this back. I wonder where it goes?
icon:icons[0,13]
req:1 searchParty
cost:1 coin

Under layout, I have this snippet telling it where the items should appear once available

*inventory
in:upgrades
class:lower
header:Inventory
contains:Items

I've tried tweaking this a bunch of different ways but can't seem to get it to work. The handbook only has a half paragraph on items so I don't have much to work off of. The rest of the game works fine (icons, searchParties, coins, the class "lower", etc.). Thanks!

    Seems like you have done it correctly in the first snippet, but the second one looks off.
    Can I have the pastebin code? (It's those letters at the end of the url if you are gonna forget how to do that)
